Where our name comes from

“Hamidiye” belongs to the era of Sultan Abdülhamid II. One of the most concrete marks that era left on defence technology is the submarine Abdülhamid: built in Britain, shipped in parts and assembled at the Taşkızak shipyard in 1886. In 1888, off Sarayburnu, it submerged and struck its target with a torpedo — recorded as the first submarine to do so while underwater.

The cruiser Hamidiye, carrying the same name, slipped out of the Dardanelles into the Aegean in 1913 and raided alone for seven and a half months. Its purpose was not to defeat the enemy, but to force a far larger navy to divide its forces.

We did not choose this name out of nostalgia. It stands for being among the first to adopt a new technology, and for answering superior numbers not with numbers, but with a small, fast system that is in the right place at the right time. That is the logic of the system we are building.
